Mental Health and Online Dating

There are many things today that can affect mental health, and it’s recently been discovered that the use of digital dating tools can also be a culprit. Since dating apps are now a normal part of the dating scene, it’s good to know how you may be affected.

The ability to swipe photos or profiles that aren’t attractive or rate them with a like or dislike can wreak havoc to your self-esteem. Singles bars and mixers used to meet others in the past tended to be superficial and only focused on looks and conversation.

Today, the digital dating tools used to meet others can rapidly become very personal and sometimes hateful in nature. This can cause mental health issues such as a decline in personal value and self-esteem.

Besides the regular types of rejection such as not getting a response to a message, there is the problem of being ignored or swiped away on a regular basis. Rudeness may also occur online much more than in brick and mortar dating sites.

The demoralizing effects of online dating sites are obvious and the results are beginning to show in responses of those who use the sites. One common technique that’s often used on dating sites is called ghosting.

Ghosting happens when a person you’ve been communicating with abruptly ends the progressing online relationships without explanation. This experience can be dehumanizing and affect the way you see yourself.

Also, meeting in person can be traumatic if the experience doesn’t go the way you visualized it. It may make you question how you look and interact with others and cause your self-esteem to lower a few notches.

Online dating may also cause you to question yourself about any connections you make on the dating app. The superficial nature of dating sites tends to lack meaning and depth and add to what is becoming a throwaway society.

It may also lead to anonymity and deceit because it’s so easy to be untruthful. Whereas in the past, we socialized at parties, met through friends and church or clubs where we had similar interests, online dating makes it easy to remain anonymous.

This type of dishonesty and treachery can lead to mental health issues. Self-doubt, emotional distress, fear of rejection and less trust in others can cause your psychological well-being to suffer.

While dating apps serve a purpose of connecting people who may come from different worlds and are possibly isolated and lonely, you should be aware of the other side of dating apps that could damage your sensitivity.

The bottom line with dating apps is that you should proceed with caution. Research those available to you and don’t settle on one until you know what you’re getting in to. There is good and bad in virtually everything – including digital dating tools.

From Online Dating to Meeting in Person

When you get into online dating, the first thing you’ll have to realize that’s different about it from traditional dating is that you’re going to have to decide at some point when and if you want to meet them in person.

This can be a bit nerve wracking, especially if it’s your first time meeting someone you met over the internet. So how long should you wait? Most of that answer depends on how comfortable you feel – your gut instinct about the situation.

There are a few things that you can do to make the entire process a bit easier. Ask yourself if you’re comfortable with the person. This seems like a pretty basic idea, but a lot of people seem to struggle with it.

If you think that the person you’re talking to is entirely real and genuine and have good reason to believe so, then you’re off to a decent start. If you feel for any reason that you might not be getting the full picture of who you’re meeting, don’t meet up with them just yet.

It’s best to wait until you feel like you know them more. There’s only so far that a relationship can develop in a digital atmosphere. You can chat and text for awhile to get the foundation of a connection built.

But then, if you want to take things slowly, you might move on to telephone conversations. That way you can hear each other’s voices and get to know the person behind the profile a bit better.

From there, you may decide to meet. Or, if you still want to take things slow, you can opt for a Skype connection where you’re seeing each other’s faces and hearing your voices, but not yet having to show up in person.

When you do decide to meet, be careful. Don’t let them rush the process or insist on driving you to and from the date. When you’re communicating whether or not you feel comfortable meeting in person, be clear about your possible concerns.

You want your date to be understanding enough to grasp any possible worries you have about the situation. It helps if you let them know that it’s not exactly personal, but rather that you just have your reservations about meeting in person coming from an online relationship.

If you do decide to meet up in person, be sure to choose somewhere fairly out in the open and public, and make sure that there will be other people there. For example, having a first date at a bar or a restaurant is good because there are plenty of people around to help if you need it, but there’s not as many people around if you go to their place for the first date.

Online Dating Safety Tips

Online dating has made meeting and getting to know others so much easier than it was before the advent of digital dating sites. It’s much more common now to meet and become familiar with a life-partner online before you ever meet in person.

But with the ease of digital dating comes new issues that could impact your safety. There are a few things you should be aware of before you ever begin the digital dating process.

It’s not only personal safety that’s involved with online dating – new issues have become evident that could involve identity theft, harassment and other types of theft. Physical danger may also occur if you decide to meet.

One of the first things you must decide when you enter the digital dating world is which site you’re going to use to set up a profile. Some sites are very open and anyone can message you.

Instead, choose a site that requires both parties to communicate before the serious messaging begins. This doesn’t completely get rid of your chances of receiving unwanted or unpleasant messages, but it may limit the amount.

Although you’re not responsible for the actions of another person, such as lying on the dating sites, you should always assume responsibility for protecting yourself when you’re about to interact with a stranger.

Note whether or not the people you’re communicating with can find out where you live. Don’t join a dating site where your specific geographical location can be accessed. Safety experts also recommend that you use unique photos on your dating site profile.

Using the same photos that can be seen on sites like Facebook and Google increases your chances of someone finding your whereabouts. Personal details about your life should also be left out of your contact information.

Data such as your last name, social media account info and other types of contact information should never be added to your profile. This may allow others to steal your identity or locate where you live, work or socialize.

Another good piece of digital dating safety information is to always use the dating app’s messaging service – and be sure to create a Google Voice phone number specifically for your online dating activities.

And finally – get to know the person before sharing too many details about your life. Chatting on the app can be vastly different from meeting them in person. When you feel comfortable with meeting the person, choose a public place.

Be highly alert and aware as you’re getting to know the person and never put yourself in the position of having to depend on the other person to take you home after the date. Stick to protecting yourself first, even if you might feel rude or uncomfortable.

Free Dating Sites vs Paid

As with all apps and businesses, online dating tools still aim to turn a profit, even though their apps are free. In order to do this, they’ve added paid upgrades that you can get in order to give you a bit of an advantage in the online dating community.

These upgrades can help you get more frequent and better matches, allowing you to find what you’re looking for quicker. The first upgrades that you can look at come from Tinder.

Despite being a free app, Tinder is one of the highest grossing apps on the iOS app store. Using the basic, all free version of Tinder can certainly still get you matches, but Tinder does offer a few upgrades that you can buy to put yourself ahead of the game.

Tinder offers two main paid versions of their app: Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold. They both allow you to swipe on as many profiles per day as you’d like, whereas in the free version, you can only swipe so many times a day before you run out.

They also allow you to undo a swipe, just in case you accidentally liked or disliked someone you didn’t mean to. Another advantage they have is that you’re not limited to just the people around you.

You can swipe on people from anywhere around the world. The main difference between Tinder Gold and Tinder Plus is that Gold allows you to see who likes you before you swipe on them.

This helps you see if someone is already going to be matched with you if you like them. Bumble, an app very similar to Tinder, has also made good profits from using a similar system.

With the base version of Bumble, you already have unlimited swipes, but one of the differences it has from Tinder is that matches can expire after 24 hours if nobody talks or makes the first move.

Bumble offers a service called Bumble Boost, which allows you to match with someone again if your match expired, and also allows you to extend your match past the 24 hour mark.

Bumble Boost offers a similar service to Tinder Gold by showing you which people have already liked your profile, allowing you to go through and quickly match with them. This helps boost your chances of getting matches without having to blindly like every profile you see hoping for a match.

Dating Someone with Disability

Online dating is opening up many possibilities to many people. But what if you have some disabilities, is online dating still for you?

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/jul/20/my-brother-is-47-and-cant-get-a-girlfriend-could-i-help “He has asked me to find him a dating site and set him up with a profile, which sounds simple enough – but the reality is different. Christian has a learning disability. As an adult who lives alone, who has no need for a care worker and enjoys a busy social life, Christian falls into a difficult gap in the dating scene. He is too vulnerable for conventional apps such as Tinder or match.com; but he doesn’t feel catered for by disability dating events and sites, either.

I say all of this, not just because I’m a proud sister, but to show that Christian’s learning disability doesn’t hold him back from living a really full life. Generally, I don’t worry about him, but it’s hard to see that the one thing he wants – a girlfriend – he can’t seem to make happen.

He’s on two dating websites – Tinder and Badoo – but the process is gruelling. The shallow, disposable nature of online dating doesn’t really allow for honesty and conversation about disabilities. Christian’s is not a diagnosable condition; he can’t tick a box for autism or cerebral palsy, which means potential dates would have no point of reference even if he was open about his learning difficulty.” Read more…

How can disabled men and women find loving partners through online dating?

When men and women have limited time to join the dating scene, they often go to online websites to find prospects of the opposite sex to start a relationship with. Online dating sites allow members to get to know each other by letting them screen potential dates for the things they have in common, such as a disability, or characteristics they want in a partner.

For people with disabilities, dating is even harder than it is for those with limited time in their schedule. Not only is it more difficult to get around for some, but there’s also the risk of rejection that many disabled people fear when asking someone out on a date in person.

Online dating sites are now catering to those with special needs, and some even go farther than broad conditions – they specifically target members with the exact same disease in common, such as Autism or Aspergers.

Some relationships start off from online communities not geared to dating, but with multiple options, such as friendship, support, and advice. Other sites make their intentions known – that the website helps put disabled people in touch with others also afflicted with special conditions so that they have one major issue out in the open.

Sometimes, there’s a stigma against disabled people from other disabled people. They feel they want to partner with someone not suffering from the same ailment. Other times it makes it easier for the relationship to progress because the date is someone who knows what life is like for the other person.

Disabled men and women want to be included in the fun and excitement of dating, too, without dear of incrimination from others in the online dating pool. The problem with a disabled person joining a website devoted exclusively to disabled dating is that the membership can be small.

If this is the case, you can join multiple sites and broaden your horizons. You never know what man or woman will read your profile, love everything about you, and be willing to overlook any disabilities that you fear someone will balk at.

Online dating is intimidating for almost everyone. Even the beautiful, healthy people have butterflies in their stomachs as their profile goes live and they wait while others review and critique them for the possibility of a future date. Go into the situation with confidence in who you are, and your disability will blend into the background as your personality is allowed to shine.

What is the Purpose of Dating

When it comes to the world of online dating, there are two major groups of people that you can differentiate: those who are there to date, and those who are there for hookups. Sometimes these categories happen to overlap, but it’s not too frequent.

Both categories are equally justified, but the most important thing you need to do is clearly define what you’re looking for in online dating before you make any profiles or choose any platforms.

Generally speaking, dating is defined as any kind of committed relationship. It doesn’t have to mean anything too serious, but it certainly involves frequent meeting and hanging out.

Dating is fairly broad because it can mean anything from a short, month long relationship up to something as long as marriage. The people you’re looking for if you’re interested in dating should be those that you really click with when it comes to their personalities.

Hookups are much different than dating, and it’s a strange kind of culture that’s still fairly new. Hookups essentially involve one or two offhanded meetups, usually involving sexual relations.

The people who hook up rarely contact one another afterwards, if ever, and if they do, it’s typically just to hook up again. This kind of relationship is certainly unorthodox, but it’s becoming increasingly popular among young adults.

When you’re trying to clearly convey your purpose on a dating website, you have to be a bit crafty about it. It’s a bit strange to come across a profile that says “looking for someone to date” or “looking for hookups,” and you probably won’t get nearly as many matches.

Instead, it’s more common and accepted to say something like “here just for fun” if you’re interested in hookups. This doesn’t come across nearly as blunt, but your message is still fairly clear.

The reason it’s so important to clearly define what you’re looking for out of a relationship from an online dating service is that you want to avoid confusion as much as possible. It’s already somewhat difficult to communicate thoughts clearly over just text, so when you add in the factor of whether you want a relationship or a hookup, things can get awkward.

If, for example, you met up with someone you met online hoping for a hookup, but they were expecting the start of a relationship, things would get uncomfortable very quickly, and neither of you would have a good time.

Facebook Dating Release Date and Features

Facebook Dating Will Be Launched in America One Day

America will soon have a new online dating app launched by Facebook. It’s a service that’s now being offered in Colombia, Canada and Thailand and promises to be the latest and greatest trend to help people find their soulmates.

Users of the new app will need to create a new profile, separate from the one that is used for friends, family and acquaintances. None of your dating information will be shared through your other Facebook profile news feed and vise-versa.

Facebook also promises that they won’t try to match you with anyone on your other account – including those you may have blocked. But you might also give someone a second chance with the Second Look feature on the Facebook app.

This gives you a way to interview someone a second time that you may have initially rejected initially. You can also stop the matching at any time for any reason. You may have found someone you want to date exclusively or just want to get out for a time.

Another feature lets you hide people from others on your suggested matches list from viewing. This includes particular friends or friends of those friends. Facebook got the idea to open their dating app from looking at actual statistics.

People who use Facebook were using it to connect with old friends and make new ones. Romantic type relationships sometimes formed within the groups of people who listed themselves as single.

With over 200 million people listing themselves as single in the relationship status option, Facebook has seized the opportunity to now help people realize their dreams of meeting that special someone.

Facebook Groups and Facebook Events are just two of the options available when people sign up for the Facebook Dating app. This helps singles find those who have similar dating preferences and could possibly find someone initially overlooked.

Singles on Facebook can begin conversations with others by choosing another user’s profile and commenting on something rather than simply copying and pasting a pick-up line.

Popularity of the original concept of Facebook has proven itself. Now, the new concept of using it to find dating partners promises to add some fresh spice into the world of dating and give singles yet another option in the vast choices of dating apps.

Although Facebook Dating app is now in the testing stages, perspective users in America will have to wait until there are enough signed up in Canada and Thailand to make an assessment of its success.

The Facebook Dating app will only be available to users in America who are over 18 years of age. As of now, there is no new information about when the Facebook Dating app will be available in America.

Dating a Coworker

A new study reveals that more and more people are meeting through the Internet

https://www.joe.ie/life-style/new-study-reveals-surprising-details-couples-meet-675301 “The study was focused exclusively on heterosexual couples (we'll get to same-sex couples in a moment), but the results from the study show that before 1995, 0% of couples reported to have met online, but as of the 2019 study, that number was now almost 40%.

This has replaced what had essentially been the most popular form of meeting potential partners – through a friend – which had maintained a hold of between 25% and 35% for the last 60 or so years.

As you can see, meeting through (or being) co-workers, meeting through a family member, meeting in school, meeting in college, or meeting in church have all dropped significantly since the arrival of the internet, with meeting as (or through) a neighbour now found to be the absolute dead-last way to meet a partner.

The same study found that 65% of same-sex couples meet through the internet, a number that is consistent with a similar study performed in 2009, and this is most likely down to a narrower potential to find a partner in bars or restaurants, and the specificity that online dating can be bring for those looking within a smaller dating pool.” Read more…

So what do you do if you see a co-worker on a dating site?

https://www.cnet.com/news/you-see-a-co-worker-on-tinder-or-another-dating-app-what-should-you-do/ “You're sitting on your couch, half paying attention to Fight Club playing on cable for the 4 zillionth time, swiping through today's offering of would-be love interests, when a familiar face pops up.

It's Stu, the guy from accounting who fails to make eye contact in the break room.

Actually, it doesn't have to be. This might be one of a very small cluster of situations where the best course of action to take is to just. Do. Nothing.

That's right, you have permission to not turn this into a thing.

In the world of online dating, where apps often use proximity to show you profiles (local singles IN YOUR AREA!), you're bound to run into people you know. It will make you feel weird and probably a little self-conscious to think you've got some unearned window into someone's private life … and to think they might be on the other side of that window looking back.

While it might feel like you need to say something or make a joke or acknowledge that you're both here, it's unnecessary and accomplishes nothing. Keep swiping. If your desire to make contact is to mitigate your own discomfort at being seen… A) That's your deal, not theirs B) You're going to make it worse.

Let me tack something else on to this: I know you looked at their profile. It's too tempting and you totally snooped on what they're looking for and what they have to say about themselves, and now you know their hobbies include cooking and quoting liberally from The Office.

Whatever you find on there, keep it to yourself. In truth, you don't know what they've told other people at work, what info is known and what's not, and you probably wouldn't like it if they went around describing your profile.

In short: Just leave Stu alone, man.” Read more…

Dating a Successful Woman

If you’ve found a great deal of success in life, chances are that you want to date someone who has accomplished something similar. If you intend on dating long term and having a serious relationship, with the possibility of marriage later down the line, income certainly plays a factor.

The two of you will be working together to provide money for a home and for your children, and you don’t want to be stuck with just one of you pulling all the income. One of the best websites for successful singles is EliteSingles.

EliteSingles takes in a lot of success-based information about you, such as your occupation, education status, and income. A vast majority of the users on this website are successful people with college-level educations at least, and the entire purpose is to match you up with other people of similar esteem.

EliteSingles works on a matchmaking system, meaning that the website uses algorithms to match profiles based on their compatibility. This takes things into account like geographical location, age, personality, and educational status.

Matchmaking systems allow you to focus more on work or hobbies instead of having to swipe through profiles individually. You can rate the matches that the system gives you to better improve its algorithm, and get more personalized matches each time.

It’s important to have someone of a similar educational background as yourself when you’re looking for a partner because it gives the two of you common ground to work off of.

If you have similar levels of intelligence and education, you can easily talk about deeper and more sophisticated topics with one another that you can’t get from just any typical relationship.

It helps even more if the two of you come from similar fields of study or work. For example, if you work in the medical field and happen to meet someone who came from the same field, you’ll understand a lot more about each other’s jobs and the strenuous requirements of them.

It becomes a lot easier to talk about your day at work if you both understand each other’s jobs and the vocabulary that accompanies them. You can even talk to each other about what drove you to your jobs and your career paths and potentially even find an opportunity to work with one another at the same location. No matter what, you’ll find someone with a similar work ethic and knowledge through this site.

Mindful Dating

Whether you’re dating conventionally or digitally, it’s always a plus if you can find a partner that you share certain hobbies with. It gives you something that the two of you can do together, and it makes starting your relationship that much easier.

This doesn’t mean that you have to date someone identical to yourself, but it’s not a bad idea to find someone who’s somewhat similar. Today, many people are engaged in a variety of wholesome, mindful activities, such as yoga, community service, fitness, and more.

People are more interested in leading fulfilling lives now. Along with this, there are now plenty of ways to find a partner that you can do these things with. For example, there’s a popular dating website with these qualities in mind: MeetMindful.

MeetMindful allows people to connect over what matters to them most - especially when it comes to your lifestyles and hobbies. Whether you’re interested in leading an active lifestyle with fitness or a calming lifestyle with certain diets and meditation, you can likely meet them there.

MeetMindful is free to use, and is available on both iPhones and Androids. Another popular dating app for mindful people is Sapio. Sapio is very similar at the surface level to Tinder, in that you swipe through profiles, read about them, look at their pictures, and either like or dislike their profile.

However, whereas Tinder only has bios and pictures, Sapio allows every user to answer a variety of deeper questions, allowing you to see other people’s views and thought processes, and hopefully eventually find someone that you like.

It’s important to be able to find someone who appreciates these kinds of activities on the same level that you do. If fitness is a very important part of your lifestyle and who you are, it provides you with such a good way to spend time with your partner.

If your partner doesn’t like working out, you’ll probably have that conversation at some point of you wanting to work out with them, which can lead to some unwanted arguments.

It’s also important that your lifestyles tend to match up at least a bit. For example, if you lead a very green and environmentally friendly lifestyle, but your partner doesn’t, then there’s sure to be complications with it somewhere down the line. At first, it might not be too bad, but if you were to live together eventually, then it becomes a problem.

First Date Ideas For Online Dating

Online dating can put two people together of similar financial backgrounds, or pair one frugal soul up with someone who’s used to extravagant spending.

Before you and potential partner decide to meet up and introduce yourself face to face, consider the best options you have to mapping out your first date and overcoming the jitters that lie ahead.

Creativity always delivers a good first impression. If both of you are on a budget, and going Dutch, then you may want to take a fairly frugal approach. That could mean spending your day on a picnic at the park, having a nice walk along the beach, or even inviting the other person over for a home cooked meal.

If you’re adventurous, you may want to visit a theme park and ride the thrilling rides in between trying your best to win an overstuffed animal for the person you found on an online dating site to take home.

Movies used to be a cheap option for online dating firsts, and in comparison, they still are. But in some parts of the country, a movie can get pretty pricey if you plan on devouring items from the concession stand and go when the prices are not matinee-friendly. If the two of you are fans of the arts, you can visit a museum for next to nothing and enjoy the adult atmosphere.

If you can afford to splurge a bit more, then consider going to a professional sporting event or concert together as your first date. There’s plenty of action that eases your need to continue the conversation, but also lots of opportunities to allow you to have fun and get to know one another.

Having dinner can be a great way to break the ice, and you can choose a restaurant to meet at that won’t break the bank, but will make a good first impression with your online dating match.

Believe it or not, there are many matches made on Internet dating sites where the pair want to live life to its fullest, sparing no expense – even for their first date! If this fits you perfectly, why not plan a trip to Paris or another part of the world?

If thrill-seeking is more your cup of tea, you could parachute or scuba dive, take a tourist ride in a helicopter over the city, or try your luck in Vegas as a big spender. Some couples even attempt to climb a huge mountain as a way to bond the first time they meet. Dating on the Internet can provide couples with a true insight into each other’s deepest dreams, so why not cater to the personality of our prospective mate and go all out?

Online Dating Profile Questions

Some men and women get so intimidated reading other people’s profiles that they can’t even make theirs live because fear is causing them to feel like they don’t live up to the rest of the online dating pool.

We previously provided some tips for writing an online dating profile. You might even have the guts to post your profile and then find yourself frustrated because when you give match-making a shot, others turn you down because you don’t live up to their demands, expectations, or desires right off the bat.

You almost have to have thick skin when you start posting your profile on online dating sites because it can sometimes cause people to be less sensitive than they would be if you’d met them in person.

Still, thousands of people are finding that one true love on the Internet, and it’s worth learning the ropes before you sign up at any dating site so that you’ll know the game before you go in and not get upset if you run into a few shallow people here and there.

You shouldn’t lower your expectations, but anyone who has a set list of demands before dating someone will surely find themselves disappointed. If you met Mr. or Mrs. Right on the street, you wouldn’t have a tip sheet of their profile to read before you said “hi” and discovered the spark underlying your conversations. Yet for some reason, some people reserve the right to refuse an online prospect if their list of characteristics isn’t checked off perfectly first.

Do you really want someone who has essential qualities in a mate, or is it preferable to find someone who is open to loving you exactly as you are? The dismissing process can be abrupt and blunt, so don’t let it hurt your feelings if someone says, “Thanks but no thanks” without giving you a shot. This is often only because people are joining dating sites to cater to their dilemma of limited time to spend searching for a mate.

Sometimes people put things in their profile list of Must-Haves that they don’t really mean. For instance, a man might add that his mates must look like a supermodel, when what he really means is he needs to have an attraction. It’s doubtful he’s been in the company of many supermodels, and surely he’s been attracted to ordinary women in his life!

In some ways, people believe online dating strips the first impressions away because you can’t see the subtleties that often attract us to our mates. But online dating gives you a chance to get to know the person’s personality and feel comfortable before you take the leap into real life dating.

Online Dating Risks-Married Men and Women

We have discussed the risks of online dating. In this article, we're going to delve deeper into a particular issue.

Even in the offline world, you can’t trust some people to be who they say they are. But is the online dating scene even worse in attracting men and women who are married but secretly seeking others for extra-marital affairs?

While men are typically typecast as being the louts in this kind of arrangement, they’re not the only perpetrators. Some women are seeking partners at online dating sites as a security measure against being alone in between partners.

But for the most part, online dating site participants are genuine people who are single and seeking the perfect match for their love life. Most of the despicable people who are married and straying go to websites devoted to playing the field while taken, so there’s not as much danger encountering these individuals on a single online dating site.

Still, it could happen. If you don’t take precautions to get to know someone before taking things too far, then there maybe those who accuse you of playing a part in the adulterous relationship.

Don’t be willing to just accept someone’s profile as gospel. You need to get to know your online dating prospects before agreeing to meet with them or engage in any romantic relationships.

Sometimes, love moves more quickly on the ‘net, so you have to protect yourself against the possibility that the other party isn’t being completely up front about who they are or what they’re seeking.

You don’t want to be plagued by guilt and shame that ensues when you find out you’ve been the unwitting accomplice in a triangle of love with your online dating partner that the other person’s spouse knows nothing about.

If you discover someone you’re interested in has been playing the virtual field while still tied down to someone in the offline world, then you need to abruptly end the discussions and move on to someone who was more forthright in their disclosure of who they are and their marital status.

Some bloggers are taking adulterers who use online dating sites to task, accusing them of violating the unsuspecting party’s Constitutional Rights and making it more than just an ethical or moral dilemma.

Make sure you ask questions and notice anything unusual in the prospect’s demeanor. And most importantly, recognize that even if it happens to you, these people are in the minority, and don’t represent the majority of the online dating pool.

Online Dating Profile Tips

When you’re creating your profile for an online dating site, you may be one of the many who throws in a few false facts to try to spruce up the appeal of your profile to the women you’re targeting.

There are some things you should also leave out if you want to make a good first impression. It doesn’t mean you have to lie about who you are or what you believe, but sometimes it’s best to present yourself with your best foot forward in the beginning.

First, try not to sound like a bitter, soured person who is already burnt out on the opposite sex. If you had a bad experience with your girlfriend, don’t sound like a woman-basher in your profile. No women will want to take on someone who has that much baggage following them around.

Negativity in general is a turn off for many people. If you hate the traffic, hate the weather, hate your job, and hate your life – what is there to like about you? The people you encounter on online dating sites don’t want a fixer-upper – they want someone compatible with their own personality.

Even if you’ve been plagued by bad first dates with other dating site members, don’t focus on what went wrong, but find the silver lining and talk about the details you did appreciate – even if it was just a learning experience.

Try to stand out from the crowd. Cookie cutter profiles are a turn off and if you don’t give the reader anything unique, how are they supposed to be impressed enough to choose you from the masses?

How many times have you read, “I love candlelight dinners and long walks on the beach?” Don’t be boring! Instead of candlelight dinners, be specific and say, “I love Mortini’s Italian Restaurant because the host always gives me the best seat in the house and their Alfredo Sauce is to die for!” This gives them insight into your personality, but it also lets them envision their first date with you.

To really spruce up a profile and take out everything a prospective partner doesn’t want, try to be specific about who you’re seeking in a mate. Make sure they know you’re flexible, if you are, but don’t just say, “I like a sense of humor” if what you really mean is, “I’m sarcastic and love someone who can give as good as they get with me.”

This helps remove the possibility that those you won’t be compatible will contact you and wind up being a waste of your time. Be sure to find people whose profiles you respect and emulate their success by substituting your own facts and outlook on life and soon, you’ll be seizing the opportunity to have a first encounter with someone new.
